Demo – Windows Mobile Marketplace – Site Open and Active – T-Mobile Touch Pro2 Video Demo

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin in windows marketplace | 22 Comments »

I have a flashed WinMo 6.5 ROM (6.5.1), the Leo version, on my T-Mobile Touch Pro2. After installing yet another ROM today, I was checking out Marketplace to see if it was by chance working (this would be a day earlier than its announced debut, October 6, 2009.)

Update: Here’s a link to Microsoft’s Markeplace website:

http://marketplace.windowsphone.com/Overview.aspx

Turns out the Site working now. From the limited offerings I suspect MS is in the process of uploading the programs and apps. It takes time, I suspect maybe a 24 hour process, at least.

But check it out, you can at least see the interface and also even make purchases or download/install the free apps.

I heard that Marketplace will work on WinMo 6.1, so even if you don’t have 6.5 yet (because you have not flashed a “cooked” ROM on your phone) you can still install Marketplace. But don’t hold me to that.

What happened when I clicked the Marketplace icon on my T-Mobile Touch Pro2 was that MS installed the Marketplace app. It then checked to see if my ROM or OS was a version that would work with Marketplace. Obviously it was (since I have 6.5.1 on it).

On Marketplace you can create an account, the same as you would do on Android Market. But when I browsed around I did not need an account.

Check it out.

On your WinMo smartphone go to the Windows Mobile Marketplace site. From there I assume they will provide install instructions.

This may have been a bad move by Microsoft. I am not too sure it’s a good idea to let people think that THIS is the new Marketplace. In its current state it’s horrible. I would not want even one person thinking, for example, that the free apps section will have a total of 30 apps.

I can see some people logging on and thinking “Huh, nice try Microsoft, but this does not compare to Apple or Android in terms of the number of apps.”

Also, as I said in my video a few weeks ago that discussed Marketplace, the default price for paid apps is $99 cents to $1.99. Anything $5 and above should be a rarity. People can’t go to Marketplace and see apps for $49. MS runs the risk of people saying “So what else is new.”

And remember Microsoft, people will compare Marketplace with all the other markets out there. People are not going to be impressed with a store that is filled with lots of paid apps (costing $5++) and few free apps.

NOTICE: For those YouTubers asking how to get the animated weather or WinMo 6.5 ROM on to their T-Mobile Touch Pro2 phones:

Check out thewingster.com for all you need to know about flashing a ROM.

The version I have on this T-Mobile Touch Pro2 Marketplace demo is:

Miri_WM65_21864_V4.0_Premium_Manila2.5.rar

Miri is the XDA developer who made this particular ROM. It is my favorite ROM, for the day at least.

You can find it on TheWingster or at XDA.

Part 1 – Preview – Windows Mobile 6.5 Marketplace on HTC T-Mobile Touch Pro2

Posted on May 27th, 2010 by admin in windows marketplace | 9 Comments »

Part 1 – When Windows Mobile 6.5 debuts on October 6, 2009, there will be a Marketplace that works similar in concept as the Android Market.

Update: Here’s a link to Microsoft’s Markeplace website:

http://marketplace.windowsphone.com/Overview.aspx

Fact is, Android Market is a HUGE success. So much so that RIM, Palm and Microsoft have to come out with their own versions of it, so they will be left in the dust.

Those of you who have used the G1’s Android Market know why I say this. Almost the entire fun of the G1 is being able to browse at the Android Market, download and install what sounds fun, interesting, or useful and be up and running in three minutes from when you first read the application’s description. And the price for all this, usually FREE or at the most, 99 cents to $2.00.

In this video I have WinMo 6.5 OS flashed on to my T-Mobile Touch Pro2. While the Marketplace icon is there, pressing it takes you to the MS secure site where Marketplace will be available.

In this video I show you that page and also discuss Marketplace as a concept.

I am looking forward to Marketplace since I hate Handango and anything that functions like it. This time next year I predict there will be 10,000 apps and programs on Marketplace. Woot!

A user on the http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=27934 has released a trick using the ADB USB developer debugging tools for installing the complete Google Experience Google Marketplace and Google Apps, including Gmail, Gtalk, Google Maps and other Google apps on the Archos 5 Internet Tablet with Android, even though Archos is still only running on Android 1.5.
